Let’s take a closer look at a few of the notable cities in east county San Diego….

La Mesa is a suburban city that lies on the far west side of east county, with easy access to state route 52 and the I-8 Interstate, making trips into downtown perfect for daily commuters. This family-oriented city has a population of around 56,000 and has been traditionally known for its community-focused citizens. La Mesa real estate offers homes in modern residential planned communities as well as single-family homes nestled in small neighborhoods, apartments, and mobile homes.

The quaint village of La Mesa holds a Farmers Market every Friday afternoon and during the summer hosts the “Back to the 50s Car Show” every Thursday. Downtown features an urban park named “Walkway of the Stars” dedicated to the 10,000+ volunteers that service the City of La Mesa. Other holiday events include Oktoberfest, Christmas in the Village, and the Antique Street Fair. If you are looking for the “small town” community feel, but just minutes from the city, La Mesa may be the perfect fit for you!

“All Roads Lead to Santee,” a headline once touted by the San Diego Union-Tribune, as this city’s potential for growth and progress is unparalleled in the county. Unlike the coastal communities, Santee has sizable portions of vacant land suitable for development. Add with the more recent addition of upscale housing, planned communities, a major corporate business park, expansive shopping centers, and one of the lowest crime rates in the County, Santee continues to draw more and more homeowners each year. Real estate in Santee offers homes of all layouts, sizes, and neighborhood options.

Sports, outdoors, music, and golf – you name it – Santee is full of things to do. The Sportsplex USA is located here, which features three lighted softball fields, batting cages, lighted arena soccer fields, spectator seating, and sports-themed restaurants, making it a hugely popular local favorite spot.  If the outdoors is calling you, Santee Lakes Regional Park is located a few minutes away, where you will find residents enjoying the 190 acre park for fishing, camping, bird watching and picnicking. The Santee Community Services Department also hosts free concerts for residents, including the Santee Wine & Bluegrass Festival.

Lakeside has held the long standing reputation in San Diego County as the  “cowboy town” due to the rural settings, ranches, and abundant horse ownership in the area, as well as hosting San Diego County’s only permanent rodeo facility, the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds. Come every July, Lakeside is bustling with rodeo enthusiasts visiting for the annual rodeo events. The Lakeside Historical Society still continues to work hard at retaining the town’s “western” culture by preserving the historic buildings in the former downtown along Maine Avenue.

Besides rodeo, Lakeside is also home to Lakeside River Park, the start of the 52-mile long river trail that leads from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, which was developed in 1999 with strong support of the Lakeside citizens.

While Lakeside was first named for the natural lake it was founded around, it is now home to three large reservoirs: Lake Jennings, El Capitan, and the San Vincent Reservoir. All three are kept stocked with various types of fish, thus making it a popular fishing destination for local and county residents. There are also an abundance of outdoor trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as the trailhead for the climb to the summit of El Cajon Mountain.

If you are looking for real estate in any of the above mentioned east county communities, we recommend you also take a look at Rancho San Diego, El Cajon, or Jamul, which offer a wide selection of real estate as well.
